Gil Perez is a Lecturer Faculty in the Department of Counseling at San Francisco State University. He believes in his students, sees the best in them, and aspires to help them uncover the gifts and strengths within their inherent, authentic selves to thrive as graduate students and practitioners.

He earned his Master of Science (M.S.) Degree in Counseling with a specialization in College Counseling at San Francisco State University, Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Degree in Psychology and a minor in Health Education at San Francisco State University, and Associate Degree for Transfer (A.A.-T) in Psychology at City College of San Francisco. He completed certificates in Sex Therapy as well as Intersectionality and Equity in Therapeutic Practices at California Institute of Integral Studies. He is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).

His full-time role is a Personal Counselor at College of San Mateo. Other previous faculty positions include serving as a Promise Scholars Program Counselor, General Counselor, and Assistant Professor at College of San Mateo, Outreach Counselor at Contra Costa College, and International Student Counselor at Cañada College. Practicum and internship positions include Career Development Intern at California College of the Arts and International Student Counselor Intern at City College of San Francisco. Registered associate positions include Trauma Therapist at Rape Trauma Services, Clinical Intern at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, and Couples Therapist at The San Francisco Marriage and Couples Center.

Professional development and continuous learning are critical to Gil’s advancement of offering the highest national standards of practice as a counselor and maintains certifications as a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). He is an active member of the California Association for Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (CALPCC), American Counseling Association (ACA), American College Counseling Association (ACCA), California Community College Mental Health & Wellness Association (CCC MHWA), and the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT).
