Remembering Stuart Loomis, DoC Faculty

Professor Emeritus of Counseling, Stuart Loomis died Jan. 17 in Oaxaca, Mexico. He was 102. A prominent gay rights activist beginning in the 1960s, Loomis was featured in a number of documentaries, including “Coming Out Under Fire” by filmmaker Arthur Dong (B.A., ’82). He moved to Mexico in the late 1990s, after retiring. A tribute to his life and work can be found on the website of the Bay Area Reporter. Stuart Loomis was a faculty member from 1950 to 1988 when he became Emeritus faculty. We are grateful for his contributions to this department, to the university, to the Bay Area, and to society.
