Alumnus Gil Perez Named President of California Community College Mental Health & Wellness Association
The Department of Counseling congratulates alumnus Gil Perez, LPCC, CST, NCC, CCMHC, BC-TMH, on beginning his term as President of the California Community College Mental Health & Wellness Association (MHWA). MHWA represents and supports mental health services programs across California’s 116 community colleges. During his term as President-Elect, Gil helped support the addition of “Mental Health Counselor” to the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges Disciplines List, establishing minimum qualifications for community college faculty in this role. As President, Gil will continue advocating for the role of mental health counselors in the California Community Colleges, developing statewide promising practices, and strengthening mental health services for undocumented students. He currently serves as a Personal Counselor and AFT 1493 CSM Chapter Chair and Negotiator at the College of San Mateo. Congratulations, Gil! We are proud to see the continued leadership and impact of our SF State Counseling alumni.
